The No. 3 seeded Southland baseball team overcame the odds to beat No. 2 Blooming Prairie 9-7 in an elimination game at Seltz Field Saturday.
The Rebels (17-5 overall) were facing the end of their season as they trailed 7-1 headed into the sixth inning. That’s when they scored eight runs to go up 9-7 and keep their hopes alive.
Southland’s Noah Goergen led off the game with a homer, but BP answered when Gabe Staloch hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1.
Southland will now take on No. 4 Hayfield at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Southland would have to beat Hayfield twice to get to state.
BP (15-7 overall) beat No. 11 Lewiston-Altura (10-15 overall) 7-3 to start the day.
