Francis A. “Fergie” Ferguson, 95

Francis A. “Fergie” Ferguson, passed away peacefully at the age of 95, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

He was born in Austin, Minnesota to Rachel Ferguson, and at the age of eight, moved with his family to Springfield, Missouri.

He enlisted in the United States Navy on his 18th birthday, and proudly served in the Korean War on the U.S.S. LSMR 401 until his honorable discharge in April 1952.

Fergie returned to Austin, where he was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad as a welder. He met his love, Carol Graves, and they were married June 6, 1953 at St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Fergie was then hired as a welder at the Austin Utilities, and later transferred into the gas service department where he was a beloved prankster to his co-workers, as well as being known throughout the community as a man who went the extra mile to help. He was happiest when he was fishing or hunting, and any vacation time was well spent with the camper in tow and a fishing rod in hand.  He and Carol enjoyed dancing to bands wherever they may have been, and had many wonderful years of retirement up north at Point Narrows Resort and down south in Port Aransas, TX.

He is survived by his four daughters, Deb Sexton of Enid, OK, Dawn (David) McCullough of Tryon, NC, Nancy Ferguson of Chewelah, WA, and Mary (Gary) Morgan of Gilbert, MN; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Adella Knauer of Wickenburg, AZ; and brother-in-law, Darryl (Linda) Graves of Minneapolis, MN; cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; parents, Rachel and Frank Cockrum; brother-in-law, Allen Knauer; sisters, Lily Mae and Barbara; in-laws, Robert and Melba Graves; and son-in-law, Michael Venner.

Fergie loved life, and will always be remembered for his practical and kind ways, his sense of humor, and his immense love for his family.
