The Mower County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday morning, honored Judy Oswald, who retired from her position as Veteran Services Office Technician after 27 years.

“I’ve liked working here,” Oswald said  in speaking to those gathered at Tuesday’s meeting. “It’s been the best place to work. The County Attorney’s office, I enjoyed working there too. It really has been fun and I do miss everybody already.”

Although she retired from Veterans Services, Oswald also spent time in the Mower County Attorney’s Office, something that County Attorney Kristen Nelsen said was still missed today.

“All I can say is she left us and we have missed you ever since you’ve left,” Nelsen said. “Working with Judy has been outstanding.”

Oswald was working in the Veteran Services Office when Rod Streich took over as the Veterans Service Officer five years ago.

Although he confessed he wasn’t sure of his new position, he said Oswald was there for support.

“It was a pleasure walking into the office that first day five years ago and having a very welcoming face and attitude,” Streich said, going on to say he wasn’t sure where the job would take him. “‘We’ll get to it,’ she said.”

“She built the bridges I needed to fall into and be able to develop myself,” he continued. “Thank you for mentoring me and it was a pleasure working with you.”
