Summerset Theatre has announced its open audition dates for the Broadway musical “Hairspray” and the comedy “Clue: On Stage.”

Auditions for both shows will take place on Saturday, April 12 from 9-11 a.m. and on Sunday, April  13 from 33-5 p.m.  at the Frank W. Bridges Theatre in Austin. Roles for high school students through adults are available in both shows. No experience is required and participants can attend auditions on either date. Everyone is welcome. 

Both shows have never been performed in Austin before and are based on iconic movies from the 1980s. Featuring unforgettable characters, both movies became instant  “cult classics” in pop culture and can now be enjoyed on the stage. 

“Hairspray” tackles the topic of race relations in 1960s and entertains with some of the “campiest” music ever  written for the stage. 

“The show highlights a diverse cast, great dance moves, and challenging music – something we know Austin is ready to embrace,” says its show director, Randal J. Forster. “I can’t wait to see  who shows up at auditions. We have so many talented people in the community and this show will offer great  opportunities for everyone to get involved.” 

Based on the classic board game, “Clue: On Stage” features all of the iconic players in the game. 

“Everyone loves a  good murder mystery and this show brings so much excitement and energy to the stage,” says Lucas Johnson, who is directing “Clue.” “I can’t wait to get started and see whodunit!”
