A Mower County man has been arrested and charged with domestic assault in a case in which he allegedly punched and stomped on the victim’s head.
Mark Scott Shank, 45, has been charged with felony third degree assault causing substantial bodily harm, felony domestic assault by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault.
According to the court complaint, on April 1, the victim in the case made contact with the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Department to report that she allegedly had been assaulted by Shank at the Mower County residence they shared.
She told the Goodhue deputy who responded that Shank started assaulting her following a social media friend request for a male friend, which made Shank upset.
The victim explained that Shank allegedly grabbed her by the throat and threw her to the ground and punched and kicked her repeatedly as well as stomping on her head, cracking a tooth. She further stated that he struck her several times with his fists and that at one point strangled her on the ground twice to a point of not being able to breathe.
When questioned by Mower County Sheriff’s Department deputies, Shank claimed it was only a verbal argument and said there was no physical contact. He also denied striking her or knowing how the victim received her injuries.
