Application period to go through May 13
The City of Austin will begin accepting applications Wednesday to fill the Third Ward seat left vacant by Joyce Poshusta who sat in on her final meeting Monday night before stepping down.
Those wishing to be appointed to the seat must be 21 years of age or older, a resident of the City of Austin and be a registered voter in the Third Ward.
Meetings are twice a month and include work sessions on the first and third Mondays. The person will also be expected to serve on a variety of other committees and boards.
Those interested will need to fill out an affidavit of candidacy (there is no fee to file), which can be picked up at the City Clerk’s office located at City Hall, 500 Fourth Avenue NE. People can also get a form by visiting the Minnesota Secretary of State website at https://www.sos.mn.gov/media/1027/affidavit-of-candidacy.pdf.
Applicants will also have to provide a resume as well as a letter of interest that outlines any relevant experience and vision for the community.
Applications will be accepted through May 13 by 5 p.m.
Council members will then review applications from May 14-25 and a special meeting will be held on May 26 where candidates will be interviewed.
A candidate will then be appointed during the June 2 City Council meeting.
Anybody with questions should contact City Administrator Craig Clark at 1-507-437-9941.
The candidate will fill out the remainder of Poshusta’s term, who stepped down to take another job opportunity that required her to move out of Ward Three. Poshusta announced she would be stepping down last month.
