Westfield senior Bo Zwiener ended up one win short of his ultimate goal as he was defeated in the 139-pound championship match at the Class A state wrestling meet in the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Saturday.
Zwiener lost to Trey Gunderson of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunberg on an 18-1 tech fall in the title match to finish in second place, which is his best finish ever in his fourth state appearance.
Gunderson, a three-time state champ, finishes with a record of 43-0 overall, while Zwiener, who is Westfield’s all-time wins leader, finishes with a record of 34-3 overall. Zwiener finishes with a career record of 179-38 overall.
Zwiener beat Turner Beachy of Staples Motley 4-1 in the semifinals.
