In late February, Rep.Brad Finstad, along with all the other Minnesota GOP representatives, voted for a budget that will result in reduced funding for Medicaid and SNAP/food stamps. Medicare and Social Security will also likely be impacted.

One point four million Minnesotans are enrolled in Medicaid. Three in ten children, one of three persons with disabilities, one in three births are covered by medical assistance, and one half of all nursing home residents rely on it. (Minn. Dept. Human Services) As a result of this vote, vital health care services will become more difficult to access for many Minnesotans.

Here in the 1st Congressional District, 21% of the population is enrolled in Medicaid – children, elders, people with disabilities, veterans. (NYU Grossman School of Medicine, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation) Rural health care facilities will also be negatively impacted by these cuts.

These funding reductions are being made to extend tax cuts for very wealthy people and corporations.
