An Austin man with several past convictions for domestic assault and time in prison has once again been accused of domestic assault.
Mark Richard Rabideau, 48, was in Mower County District Court Wednesday morning where he was charged with three counts of domestic assault and one count of auto theft, all three of which are felonies.
According to the court complaint, officers from the Austin Police Department were dispatched to the 600 block of Ninth Street SW at around 8:06 p.m. on March 2, for a report of a domestic assault. When they arrived the officers were told by the victim that Rabideau had come over to their shared residence where Rabideau allegedly berated the victim and threatened to take all of her money.
The complaint goes on to say that Rabideau allegedly put both of his hands around her neck multiple times, and threw her against the refrigerator and a counter.
When Rabideau walked away, the victim went to a bathroom where she said Rabideau kicked the door open and again put his hands on her neck, and threw her to the floor. It was at this point the victim said that she believed it was how her hand had become injured.
One of the officers noted an open wound to her hand as well as observed scrapes and blood on the right side of the head, and bruising beginning to form on her left arm.
An officer then observed the kitchen in disarray and blood on the table, while in the bathroom the door was noted to be broken, objects were in disarray and there was blood on the bathroom floor.
The victim also told officers that Rabideau had taken her car keys and telephone and that he had driven her car without her permission.
Officers were directed to a home in the 800 block of Fourth Avenue SW where the vehicle was found still running. They made contact with Rabideau, who when asked about the incident said “nothing of consequence” had happened.
He was arrested and taken to the Mower County jail where a preliminary breath test resulted in a blood alcohol content of .256.
Rabideau’s criminal history shows four prior convictions for domestic violence-related acts that include two violations of harassment restraining orders (2015 and 2016), which were felonies, as well felony domestic assault (2023) and gross misdemeanor domestic assault (2019).
He was sentenced to prison for the two harassment restraining order violations, which ran concurrently with each other. He was also sentenced to 21 months in prison for the 2023 conviction.
His next court appearance will be an initial appearance on March 17.
