Zwiener leads the field of six area state qualifying wrestlers

There are six area wrestlers set to compete in the Class A state wrestling meet this Friday and Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Westfield senior Bo Zwiener is a major contender at 139-pounds as he is competing in his fourth state wrestling meet. Zwiener, who enters with a record of 31-2 overall, will take on Central Public Schools senior Collin Degn, who is 31-8 overall, in his opening match.
Zwiener, who is the all-time record holder for wins as a Razorback, took fifth place at 133 pounds last season.
Also in the 139-pound bracket will be GMLOS freshman Cael Smith, a first-time state qualifier, who has a record of 37-9 overall. Smith will open with Benson junior Max Nygaard, who is 45-3 overall.
Kerkoven-Murdock-Sundberg junior Trey Gunderson is another contender at 139 with a record of 39-0.
Westfield junior Cannon Wacek will be making his first appearance at the state meet as he enters with a record of 27-11 overall at 145. He will open up against Frazee senior Bailey Peichel, who is 38-2 overall.
Westfield senior Gage Mullenbach will be a first time state qualifier at 152. He will put his 21-12 overall record on the line in an opening match against junior Gavyn Hlucny of Crookston, who is 33-5 overall.
Westfield senior Alex Lea is a first-time state qualifier and he will take on Minneota senior Eli Gruenes, who is 40-2 overall at 189-pounds. Lea is 36-8 overall on the season.
GMLOS will be represented by freshman Zoe Steinkamp in the girls state meet. Steinkamp enters with a record of 31-12 overall and she will open up against Ellie Westerman of Eagen, who is 26-7 overall.
Competition will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, with the meet wrapping up at 4 p.m. Saturday.
