The No. 8 seeded Hayfield/Schaeffer girls basketball team couldn’t find its offense down the stretch as it lost to No. 9 Zumbrota-Mazeppa (13-14 overall) 46-41 in a Section 1AA Tournament opener in Hayfield Thursday.

The Vikings (15-11 overall) held a 40-36 lead with four minutes left, but they were outscored 10-1 down the stretch.

“Turnovers and execution cost us at times throughout the season and it happened again tonight,” HSA head coach Kasey Krekling said. “The girls had great fight, but we were too sloppy on offense to pull out a playoff win.”
