Political decisions in the recent past have caused some deep concerns in my mind regarding the stresses being put on the Constitution of the United States.

Changes being pushed on certain basic freedoms have caused deep fears and uncertainty to many individuals and organizations, both locally and nationally. Children’s programs, government programs, non-profit programs and scientific research programs have all been listed as being under re-evaluation.

Though some may feel that none of these proposed changes will have an impact on their personal life, that notion denies the central basis of the Constitution. There is to be an orderly manner in which governmental decisions are to be made for the safety and continuance of law, and not done without care or study.

All nationally elected or appointed individuals must be held responsible to honor the oaths they spoke, regarding upholding the Constitution. Though there may be pressures put on them, they need to stiffen their spines or grow a bodily appendage to do the right thing for the right reasons — the upholding of the rights and privileges given in the Constitution.

If these political decisions affected even one child, one co-worker, one non-profit, one scientific study, then they affected each of us.

Let your elected officials know, and in the process grow a backbone of your own.
