Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

In a world where our schedules are packed and free time feels scarce, it’s easy to overlook the value of community involvement. However, joining a local service club like Kiwanis, Lions or Rotary (or any others I haven’t mentioned) can be one of the most rewarding decisions you make -not just for our community, but for yourself.

As a proud member of both the Morning Lions and Rotary clubs here in Austin, I’ve witnessed firsthand the incredible impact these organizations have. Whether it’s supporting local youth programs, improving community spaces, or spearheading projects that address health, education, and environmental needs, these clubs are the backbone of service in our town. They don’t just talk about making a difference – they do it.

But here’s the hard truth: if more people don’t step up and participate, the important work these clubs do could disappear. Service clubs rely on volunteers to carry out their missions. Without new members bringing fresh energy and ideas, the programs and support that so many in our community depend on are at risk of fading away.

It’s not just about giving back. Being part of a service club offers meaningful connections with people who share your values, opportunities for personal growth, and even professional networking. It’s a chance to be part of something bigger than yourself, to develop leadership skills, and to create lasting friendships.

Our community thrives when people step up, get involved, and work together. If you’ve ever felt the urge to contribute more to your community (hopefully it’s Austin!) NOW is the time!  Join a local service club and experience the fulfillment that comes from serving others while helping ensure that these vital organizations and their good work — continue for generations to come.
