Celebrate young musicians at HHH’s Harris Music Contest Concert & Awards Ceremony on Saturday

The annual Harris Music Contest Concert & Awards Ceremony, which showcases and celebrates the dedicated musical talents of young musicians across the area will be held this Saturday.  

The public is invited to attend a free concert at 3:30 p.m. at the MacPhail Center for Music’s Recital Hall, in Austin, where the top performers in each age and instrument category will play the piece they were judged on during the contest.  The instruments that will be showcased include: piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, and mallet percussion.  

 The Harris Music Contest is open to any non-professional young musician living or studying in the Minnesota counties of Freeborn, Mower or Steele or the Iowa counties of Mitchell or Worth, although registration closed on Feb. 14.

This contest honors the memory and legacy of MarySue Hormel Harris, who continues to provide support for the Hormel Historic Home, even after her passing, to offer music programming to the community through the Hormel Historic Home’s Music & Education Missions. MarySue was a granddaughter of Ben F. Hormel, who was George A.
