Law enforcement is investigating a shooting that took place Saturday afternoon in northwest Austin and that has resulted in one person being killed.
According to a press release from the Austin Police Department’s Capt. Todd Clennon, the Austin Police Department was dispatched to the 1100 block of Fifth Avenue NW for a report of a shooting at around 1:36 p.m. Saturday.
When officers arrived they found one adult male with gunshot wounds.
“Lifesaving measures were performed, however, the victim succumbed to the injury and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Clennon said in the press release.
Officers also learned that a second adult male had been injured in the shooting, and that he had been taken to Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin by a private vehicle.
Several blocks surrounding the scene have been cordoned off and Clennon said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is responding to the scene to help APD with the investigation.
APD has not identified the deceased victim of the shooting, but said a formal identification will be made once a preliminary autopsy is complete and family notifications have taken place.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. Check back to the Austin Daily Herald as more information becomes available.
