Barbara Underland, 85

Barbara Jean Underland, 85, of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Birchwood Cottages.

She was born June 26, 1939, in Austin, Minnesota the daughter of Hannible and Katherine (Rowland) Noble. Barb grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1956. She met Gary on a blind date that her sister Janet and Gary’s cousin Ole set up. They were married August 11, 1957 at the First Methodist Church in Austin. The couple was married for 65 years until Gary’s passing in September 2022. Barb attended Austin Community college and graduated with a degree in Cosmetology. She worked in Owatonna as a beautician for a few years. Barb and Gary were blessed with two adopted children Douglas and Joyce. Once her children started school, Barb went back to work as a Teachers Aid in Faribault at Lincoln school.

Barb loved to travel with Gary to visit her daughter Joyce and her family in Pennsylvania and her sister Janet in northern Minnesota. Their travels took them to Europe with them spending time in Italy and Norway. They took numerous trips with friends traveling on motorcycle, RV or on a houseboat. Barb loved adventure.

Barb took pride in her garden and her flower beds, her cooking and baking and her family. She taught her grand-daughter Kristin how to bake her famous apple pie. Her house was always filled with pets with her favorite being cats.

She is survived by son, Douglas (and Susan) Underland of Medford; daughter, Joyce (and Kevin) Harriger of Brookville Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Jeremy (and Trina) Harriger, Kristin (and Tommy) Knapp; great-grandchildren, Stella Knapp and Camden Harriger; sisters, Janet (and Joe) Bjork, and Judy Beck.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gary Underland; parents, Hannible and Katherine Noble; brothers, Roger, Ronald, Robert, and Ross Noble; sister, Evelyn Duenow, and Virginia Tesch.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with a visitation starting one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Owatonna.
