Austin senior Sam Winkels continued his trend of putting up points as he won his opening match at the Class AA state wrestling meet.

Winkels beat Preston Hinrichs of MAHACA with an 11-0 major decision to move on to the 285-pound quarterfinals.

Winkels, who is now 45-2 overall, will take on Isaac Frericks of Sauk Centre-Melrose in the quarterfinals. Frericks is 37-6 overall.
