Angela Monaghan Vigen, 51
Angela Monaghan Vigen, loving mother, sister, co-worker, and friend, passed away on February 24, 2025, at the age of 51 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Angie was born on March 14, 1973, in Iowa City, IA, the daughter of Donald and Shirley Monaghan. She grew up in Manchester, IA and graduated from West Delaware. A bright and determined individual, she was educated at the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN) where she earned a BA in Criminal Justice and an MSW (Master of Social Work), and Rider University (Lawrenceville, NJ) where she received an MA in Human Services Administration.
Angie devoted much of her life to empowering and supporting at-risk youth. As a Clinical Supervisor at Nexus Gerard Family Healing in Austin, MN, she worked tirelessly to guide young individuals in residential programs, helping them overcome challenges and reach their fullest potential. Her dedication and kindness left a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to work alongside her, and she will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Angie had many passions that brought her joy. She had a love for reading, sports, traveling and was an enthusiastic baker, often preparing delicious treats for her family, co-workers, and friends. Angie was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Football fan, and it was a common weekend adventure to drive to Iowa City with Zoe and Zander to meet up with family as they cheered on their favorite team.
Family was important to Angie. She devoted much of her life to supporting each of her siblings and their children-even going so far as to relocate to do so. Angie cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, always building meaningful connections and putting others first. Above all, the most important part of Angie’s life was her children, Zoe and Zander, whom she adored with an endless and unwavering love.
Angie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Donald and Shirley Monaghan, and her siblings, Anne, Lee, David, and Daniel. She leaves behind her two cherished children, Zoe and Zander; her siblings Carrie (John) Pallat, Cathy Monaghan, Allen (Keila) Monaghan, Art (Emily) Monaghan; as well as nieces Sabine, Nikki and Sammy and nephews Nolan, Kieran, Daniel, Charlie and Brady.
Angie’s spirit, warmth, and devotion to helping others will be sorely missed and she will forever be in our hearts.
In an effort to honor Angie in the two places she called home, multiple gatherings are planned.
Austin, MN: Local friends and family are welcome to a casual, open house style gathering at the DoubleTree Hotel Ballroom, located at 1701 4th St NW in Austin this Saturday, March 1 between 1-4 pm. Games, snacks and beverages will be provided, just as Angie was known to bring to every event and celebration.
Manchester, IA: A more formal Celebration of Life and a Christian burial will occur this summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to the Zoe and Zander Scholarship Fund, to provide ongoing educational opportunities for Angie’s children. Donations of cash or checks can be sent to her brother, Art Monaghan (see address below), or sent by Venmo to @Arthur-Monaghan.
