Donnis E. Allen, 89

Donnis E. Allen, 89 of Rochester, MN passed away with her family by her side  on June 26, 2020 at her home.

Donnis E. Hukee was born on December 7, 1930 in Adams, MN to Bernard and Ella (Amble) Hukee. While working at the local bank, she met and later married William (Bill) Allen on June 18, 1950 at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together. They raised 4 children on the family farm in Adams.

Donnis was a dedicated member of Little Cedar and Gloria Dei Lutheran churches. She worked as an administrative assistant and bookkeeper at St Mark’s Nursing Home, Star Masonry, Inc. and for the family farm business. The couple retired from farming and moved to Rochester in 1997. They continued to spend their winter months in Mesa, Arizona for over 20 years.

Donnis enjoyed traveling, baking, cooking, golfing and was especially adept at playing bridge. She was most proud of her Norwegian heritage and passed on many traditions to her family. She had the unique gift of a deep and genuine interest in people which made everyone she knew feel special. She was most happy spending time with her family, many friends and all her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Bill; her children; Julie (Jerry) Aman of Minnetrista, Craig (Linda) Allen of Rochester, Susan (Terry) Schaefer of Minnetonka, David (Jody) Allen of Maple Grove; 7 grandchildren; Chad, Scott and Jeffrey Allen, Matthew Schaefer and Kayla Levitt, Benjamin and Jordyn Allen; 8 great grandchildren; a brother Bernard J Hukee, Jr; sister in law, Sue Allen; brother and sister in law Dr. James and Elaine Allen and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Isabelle Bourne.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date with burial at the Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery in Adams.
