Mower adds 10 more COVID-19 cases as state nears 1,000 deaths

Mower County’s COVID-19 cases went up by 10 from Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 216.

This new number accompanies the 510 new cases statewide as reported by the Minnesota Department of Health in Wednesday’s report, raising the total to 22,464. With the 33 new deaths, that number rose to 932 and nears 1,000 dead since March 19.

MDH’s report also shows 2,796 people have required hospitalization with 598 in the hospital today and 260 needing ICU care.

Patients no longer needing isolation now number 16,314 and to date there have been 216,532 tests conducted.

Current case numbers in neighboring counties include Dodge (46), Fillmore (17, 1 death), Freeborn (97), Olmsted (575, 10 deaths) and Steele (148).

Nationwide, the news continues to be grim as the country nears 100,000 dead. According to John Hopkins University COVID-19 dashboard (https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html) Wednesday morning, there are just over 99,000 deaths in the United States out of the over 1.6 million cases.

Globally there are over 5.6 million cases and 351,815 deaths.
