The No. 7 seeded Southland girls basketball team fell short on their upset bid when they lost to No. 2 Fillmore Central (20-8 overall) 58-50 in a Section 1A quarterfinal in Rochester Lourdes Monday.

It was a back-and-forth battle for most of the night, but the Falcons pulled away in the late minutes of the game.

Lexi Smith had 16 points for the Rebels (12-12 overall).
