Odell Reuben Scrabeck, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at Good Samaritan Society – Comforcare in Austin.

Odell was born Aug. 9, 1932, in Preston, Minnesota, the son of Reuben and Agnes (Olson) Scrabeck. He grew up in Preston and Austin and graduated from Preston High School in 1951. After high school, Odell married Darlene Joan Williams on Sept. 14, 1956, in Austin. To this union nine children were born. Darlene passed away in 1972. Odell worked for several employers over the years, including Rent N Save, and loved working at Walmart in Austin. He was a landlord for many years and also did some remodeling on the side. On July 23, 1973, he was united in marriage to Betty Louise Huntly in Mason City, Iowa. The couple enjoyed over 42 years of marriage. Odell was a member of the Lutheran faith. He enjoyed working in his yard and tending to his flower and vegetable gardens. Odell especially loved spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Odell is survived by his children, Denise (David) Schwartz of Laporte, Minnesota, Rodrick Scrabeck of Austin, Michael (Laura) Scrabeck of Hayden, Idaho, Diane (Brad) Minske of Northfield, Minnesota, David Scrabeck of Rockville, Minnesota, Brian (Evie) Scrabeck of Hayden, Debbie (Tom) Hanson of Austin, Dean (Tomoko) Scrabeck of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Denette (Kenny Wytaske) Anderson of Austin, Darlene (Delbert) Anderst of Lake City, Minnesota, Dorothy Graff of Purdy, Missouri, Danita (William) Young of North Mankato, Minnesota, and David Halverson of Davenport, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Barbara Mensink of Rushford, Minnesota; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Jean) Scrabeck of Cannon Falls, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Agnes Scrabeck; wife, Betty Scrabeck; wife, Darlene Williams; son, Russell Mensink; two daughters, Donna Wencl and Dianne Hansen; and two sisters, Donna Howley and Arlys Hope.

Odell’s family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Society – Comforcare staff and St. Croix Hospice staff for all their care and kindness shown to their father.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
