GMLOS qualifies eight wrestlers for state meet

The Grand Meadow LeRoy-Ostrander-Southland wrestling team advanced eight wrestlers to state from the Section 1A individual meet Mayo Civic Center in Rochester Saturday.

Anthony Romero, Daniel Smith and Noah Sayles all won Section 1A titles for the Bulldogs and Cohen Wiste, James Jacobsen, Lucas Winfield, Rece Voigt and Cameron Sneed advanced to state by taking second place.

Romero, a junior, pinned Lucas Schiell of Zumbrota-Mazeppa in the first period to win the 106-pound title, Wiste, a freshman, beat Michael Majerus of Z-M 17-8 in a true second place match at 113, James Jacobsen, a freshman, pinned Ben Murray of Z-M in a true second place match, Winfield, a junior, won by major decision over Kody Rasmussen of Triton in a true second place match, Voigt, a junior, beat Caden Anderson of FCLMCW 5-1 in a true second match, Smith, a junior, won the 160-pound title with a first period pin over Chatfield’s Campbell Berge, Sayles, a junior, pinned Jack Strub of of Caledonia-Houston in the first period to win the 170-pound title, and Sneed, a junior, beat Cody Lohman of Goodhue 5-3 in a true second match at 195.

Donovan Felten finished in third place at 138 and Christian Jacobsen took third at 152 for the Bulldogs.

GMLOS will compete in  the Minnesota Class A State Team Tournament when it takes on Blue Earth at Xcel Energy Center at 9 a.m. Thursday.
