The No. 3 seeded Austin girls hockey team was ousted from the Section 1A Tournament when it lost No. 2 seeded Faribaut (19-5 overall) 2-1 in the semifinals in Faribault Saturday.

Austin (12-13 overall) struck first in when Kate Holtz scored a power play goal on assists from Jordyn McCormack and Samantha Krueger late in the first period, but the Falcons scored twice in the second period to take the lead.

Shelby Davidson had 39 saves for the Packers, who attempted 21 shots on goal.

The loss signaled an end to the high school hockey careers of McCormack, and Sunita Esche, a foreign exchange student from Germany.

“It was hard watching the AHS careers of Jordyn and Sunita finished,” Austin head coach Troy Holtz said. “Jordyn has scored over 100 points in her career and Sunita was our first foreign exchange student to play for us. This has been a fantastic team to coach. We have a lot of players coming back.”
