Austin man killed in Friday morning vehicle accident; Second Austin man injured

An Austin man was killed in a Friday morning two-vehicle crash that shut down part of Highway 218 in Westfield Township in Dodge County.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol accident report, a 2009 Toyota Camry was traveling south on Highway 218 at about 5:40 a.m. on Friday. A 2008 GMC Acadia was headed north when the two vehicles collided about one mile south of Blooming Prairie. After the collision, the Camry caught on fire.
The driver of the Camry, Keith Prescott Crape, 27, of Austin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik said the responding Mower County deputy attempted to perform life-saving measures on Crape.
The driver of the Acadia, Oscar Morgan Perez Morales, 44, of Austin was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin with non-life threatening injuries.
The road conditions were listed as covered in snow/ice.
The report states that Crape was not wearing a seatbelt. The report did not state a cause for the crash.
Deputies from the Steele County, Dodge County and Mower County Sheriff’s offices, as well as Blooming Prairie and Mayo Ambulances, responded to the scene.
