Wanita Aileen Pfeifer, 79, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.
Wanita was born on May 8, 1940, in Austin to Oscar and Agnes (Freiheit) Huffman. She attended Austin Public Schools. On Nov. 25, 1956, Wanita was united in marriage to Eugene Pfeifer at Crane Community Chapel in Austin. Wanita was a lifelong Austin resident and worked at Weyerhaeuser for 20 years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin, where she was very active. Wanita liked flower and vegetable gardening. She also loved being outside, fishing and camping. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her much joy in life and she loved watching their activities. Wanita was always willing to help anyone. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene Pfeifer of Austin; sons, Steve (Tammy) Pfeifer of Austin and Greg (Lori) Pfeifer of Austin; daughter, Shelly (Lee) DeVries of Albert Lea, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Abigail, Benjamin, Jordan, Sadie, Amy, Katy and Gregory; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronnie (Barb) Huffman of Austin; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Huffman of Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Agnes Huffman; and nine siblings.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of the Sacred Heart Care Center for the loving care and personal attention they provided to Wanita.
