The Austin girls hockey team skated to its first win of the season when it topped Rochester John Marshall (1-5 overall, 1-3 Big Nine) 3-2 in Rochester Saturday.
Kate Holtz scored the game-winner for the Packers (1-3 overall, 1-3 Big Nine) on a rebound with only a few minutes remaining in the third period.
“It was a big first win for the team,” Austin head coach Troy Holtz said. “They have played so hard and it was nice to see the bounces go our way.”
Jordyn McCromack and A.J. Berrera each added one goal for Austin and Kyia Radford Garcia had 25 saves.
Lexi Stitch had two assists for Austin, and Kiah Rumsey, McCormack and Holtz each had one assist.
“Kiah Rumsey was a huge addition to the second line with the defense playing a shutdown type of game,” Troy Holtz said. “We are young, but we are getting better every game.”
