JANESVILLE — The Blooming Prairie football team is headed back to U.S. Bank Stadium after it beat Springfield 42-20 in the Minnesota Class A state quarterfinals at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton High School Saturday.
The Awesome Blossoms (11-0 overall) jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and Baldwin caught TD passes of 39- and 15-yards from Kaden Thomas in the final minute of the second quarter to take a commanding 35-7 lead into the break.
“We wanted to get up on them and put the pressure on them right away,” BP head coach Chad Gimbel said. “We wanted to make them one dimensional and get them out of what they wanted to do defensively. It was good.”
Thomas threw for 293 yards with four touchdowns and an interception in the win and Gabe Hagen had 122 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
BP will play Ada-Borup in the Minnesota Class A State Football Tournament semifinals at U.S. Bank Stadium at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. It is the second straight year BP will play in the state semis.
