Alumni update: Austin’s Obany shooting at a high rate at Riverland

Austin grad Nyagoa Obany is averaging 8.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game for Riverland Community College (6-1 overall). Obany is shooting 80 percent from the field, which ranks second in NJCAA Division III.

Austin grad Tate Hebrink is averaging 4.9 points, .3.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Austin grad Duoth Gach had 17 points and Austin grad Moses Suleiman had two rebounds as North Dakota State College of Science lost 100-94 to Sharidan on Nov. 24.

Gach, a preseason All-American, is averaging 11.3 points and he is shooting 38.6 percent on three-pointers for the Wildcats (6-2 overall).

Austin grad Medi Obang put up 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting in 19 minutes for Lake Region State in a 137-59 win over Turtle Mountain Community College on Nov. 24.

Obang is averaging 13.7 points per game and shooting 55.7 percent from the field, 47.5 percent on three-pointers and 83.3 percent on free throws for the Royals (5-5 overall).

Austin grad Ngor Deng had two points and two rebounds for Bismarck State (1-8 overall) in a 92-85 loss to Little Priest Tribal on Nov. 23.

Austin grad Dongrin Deng had six points and six rebounds for Dakota College at Bottineau (4-4 overall) in a 92-71 loss to Sisseton Wahpeton College on Nov. 16.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Lyle grad Kristi Fett had seven points and three rebounds for Minnesota State (2-1 overall) and Grand Meadow grad Skylar Cotten had 12 pints, two rebounds and two assists as the Mavericks (2-1 overall) beat Behthany Lutheran (4-2 overall) 100-63 on Nov. 25.

Pacelli grad Sarah Holtz had 18 points and three rebounds on five-of-10 shooting for Luther College in a 77-69 loss to UW-La Crosse (0-5 overall) on Nov. 26.

LeRoy-Ostrander grad Haley Hungerholt had five points and three rebounds for Waldorf University (2-4 overall) in a 65-48 loss to North Central on Nov. 22.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Austin grad and Gustavus sophomore Abby Schammel had a big day at the Grace Goblirsch Invite in Gustavus on Nov. 23.

Schammel finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.85, she took 11th in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 20:59.86, she was on the seventh place 200-yard medley relay team, she was on the sixth place 200-yard freestyle relay team.

SOCCER

Austin grad Abel Gebrekiros scored two goals in the final game of the season for Garner Webb, a 3-2 loss to High Point in the second round of the Big South Conference Tournament.

Gebrekiros, a junior at Garner-Webb (9-8-2 overall) had six goals and four assists in 14 games this season.

Austin grad Clara Munger played in 12 games and had one shot and Austin grad Isabelle Reuter played in 13 games with one assist and two shots on goal this season for Central Christian College in Kansas.

Both players were defenders for CC (2-7 overall).

CROSS COUNTRY

Austin grad Madison Overby took 77th place for the University of North Dakota at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Stillwater, Oklahoma on Nov. 15.

The Fighting Hawks took 19th as a team in the meet, the program’s highest finish as a Division I program.

Austin grad Abby Lewis recently wrapped up her freshman season at UW-Eau Claire when she finished 12th place with a time of 24:54 in the in the Luther Saga Cup on Nov. 8 meet  11-8. She also took second with a time of 19:24 in the City Wells Meet in Eau Claire on Oct. 25.
