3 juveniles allegedly spotted tampering with vehicles; 1 facing possible theft charge

Three juvenile males were cited after allegedly being seen tampering with vehicles early Sunday morning.

According to Austin Police Capt. Todd Clennon, dispatch was called shortly after midnight on Sunday regarding three juvenile males seen going through vehicles in the 700 block of Sixth Avenue Southwest. Officers made contact with the juveniles, a 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds, all from Austin, at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Ninth Street Southwest.

All three were cited after being found in possession of tobacco products. Two of the juveniles, the 15-year-old and 16-year-old, were on probation and taken into custody on probation holds. The third was released to his mother.

Police reviewed dash camera footage and saw one of the suspects emptying his pockets and dropping items on the ground as they approached. Three prescription bottles with someone else’s name on them were found at the spot. None of the bottles contained controlled substances.

The juvenile seen on the footage emptying his pockets could face a possible theft charge, Clennon said.
