Riverland will hold Hall of Fame ceremony Saturday

Riverland Community College will induct five individuals and one team into the Athletic Hall of Fame at a ceremony at the Austin Campus Saturday.

This year’s inductees include David Lillemon, coach/athletic director (1987-2017); Sara Stallman Lindemann, volleyball and softball (1996-1998); Laura Chaffee, women’s basketball (1995-97), Renae Bebler Sundberg, women’s basketball and tennis (1998-2000) and Jeremy Peterson, tennis (1998-2000).

Lillemon served as the athletic director from 1988-2017 (29 years), including being elected Region XIII men’s director for four years. He coached golf for 14 years and had eight consecutive seasons that at least one male golfer qualified for the NJCAA national Golf Championships and he coached two females to consecutive National Golf Championships.

Stallman Lindemann, a 1997 graduate of Riverland, played volleyball and softball 1996-1998. She was co-captain of her volleyball team in 1997 and earned team honors as All-Division, All-State, and All-Region both her freshman and sophomore years, receiving an All-American nomination her final season with Riverland.

She led the nation in digs per game in 1996 and was second in the nation in digs per game in 1997.

Chaffee played women’s basketball in 1995-97.  Her freshman year, she earned All-Conference and second team All-State honors averaging 18.8 points per game 5.1 rebounds.  She was named to the All-Conference and All-State teams 1996-97.

Bebler Sundberg competed in basketball and tennis for the Blue Devils and she was the 1999-2000 Riverland Athlete of the year.

Bebler-Sundberg continued her education at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul while playing basketball and tennis.

Peterson played tennis at RCC from 1998-2000 and he won state singles in doubles before taking third in the Division III National Tournament.

The 2009 Riverland baseball team was coached by head coach Scott Koenigs and assistant coaches Andy Swank and Dan Swift.

RCC won its first division title in 28 years and it went to the NJCAA World Series. The Blue Devils finished with a record of 37-10 overall.
