Joanne Perlene Orpen, 89, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society – Comforcare in Austin.

Joanne was born on April 28, 1930, in Austin, the daughter of Palmer C. and Jeanette (Thompson) Ludvigsen. She was married to Clarence Orpen on May 20, 1950, in Austin, and together they raised four children. Joanne was a loving mother, wife and homemaker. She and Clarence were lifelong members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. They greatly enjoyed their cabin on Mille Lacs Lake and traveling and camping throughout the US.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; and daughter-in-law, Julie Orpen. Survivors include her children, Terry (Sue) Orpen, Alexandria, Minnesota, Rick (Mary) Orpen, St. Peter, Minnesota, Debbie (Randy) Jones, Saint Bonifacius, Minnesota, and Tim (Lisa) Orpen, Nowthen, Minnesota; grandchildren, Scott (Angie) Orpen, Matt (Alecia) Orpen, Nate (Becky) Orpen, Josh (Amy) Orpen, Eric Jones, Kevin Orpen and Christopher Orpen; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Mark Niethammer officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
