Pet Supplies Plus opens Friday

A third business is set to open in the old Hy-Vee building.
Pet Supplies Plus will have a soft opening at 9 a.m. on Friday, featuring a supply of pet accessories, live animals and a pet grooming service.
Pet supplies opens just a week after Five Below opened.
While the entire store is pet focused, the company in particular is hoping to grow its grooming service.

“Our goal is to grow the salon,” related Pet Supplies Plus through a press release. “We’re going to train people internally and (Shannon Bagely) is going to train them over time as demand is needed.”
Bagely, who is Austin’s new salon leader, is transferring from a store in Wisconsin to head the department.
“I am very excited to be here in Austin,” Bagely said. “To bring my knowledge of grooming techniques such as those cute personality trims, confirmation grooming or even a splash of pet safe temporary dye.”
Bagely has been in the pet industry for over 15 years and started grooming 11 years ago. Before that she completed grooming school and both assisted and competed in grooming competitions that Bagely said helped her hone her skills.
There will be no breed or size restrictions as Bagely and her staff are just excited to get to work.
“My love of pets began at a young age and I cannot imagine myself doing anything else,” Bagely said.
All this week, staff will be looking to get merchandise on the shelves. The animals, which will include a variety of fish, reptiles and other animals will be coming on Thursday and will be ready when the store opens on Friday.
With the opening of Pet Supplies Plus, the only store left to open at the old Hy-Vee site is Marshalls, which has a target date of early October.
A grand opening for Pet Supplies Plus is planned for Oct. 5-6, which will include free nail trims and pet wash. More details for the event will be released at a later date.
