Grand Meadow man injured in Friday moped incident

A Grand Meadow man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a Friday evening incident in Spring Valley Township.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol accident report, a 2004 Honda Moped driven by Donnie James Simonson, 69, of Grand Meadow was heading northbound on Highway 63 at about 6:22 p.m on Friday in Spring Valley Township. A 2008 Chevy Malibu was heading southbound on Highway 63 and turned east on Tracy Road as the moped was approaching. Simonson laid down the moped to avoid a crash and the vehicles never made contact.

The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

Simonson, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus-Rochester for non-life threatening injuries. The Chevy’s driver, Mikenzie Jean Krier, 20, of Plainview was uninjured.
