Game and Fish Building ready for the Mower County Fair

The Game and Fish Building is ready for the 2019 Mower County Fair.

Exhibitors will include Izaak Walton League Austin Chapter 10, Mower County Soil and Water Conservation District, Jay C. Hormel Nature Center, Mower County Pheasants and Habitat Forever and the National Wild Turkey Federation – Cedar River Longbeards Chapter.

The Jay C. Hormel Nature Center staff will be giving presentations on the following days:

• Wednesday, 4-7 p.m: “Howling With Delight” – wolf presentation by Andie Haveaux

• Thursday, 4-7 p.m.: “All About Bees” – Learn about the Nature Center’s resident bees and the hive-to-bottle program. (Kelly Bahl, presenter)

• Friday, 4-7 p.m.: “Monarch Magic” – This incredible journey from egg to butterfly (to the mountains of Mexico) is highlighted with live examples. (Sydney Weisinger, presenter)

Stop by the Mower County Soil and Water Conservation District booth on Wednesday, to see a demonstration table on septic systems use and operation. A representative from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture will also be available to discuss state agriculture related initiatives.

Mower County Pheasants and Habitat Forever will be selling raffle tickets to raise funds for the 2019 Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener, which will be held this October in Mower County.

Gobble like a wild turkey at the Cedar River Longbeards – National Wild Turkey Federation youth wild turkey calling contest at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9. Those interested should meet on the east side of the Game and Fish building at 6 p.m.

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Waterville Fisheries Division will be bringing area fish species on Tuesday.
