Bruce Westrum of Austin competed in the National Singles Tennis Tournament in Eden Prairie Monday.
Westrum, who competed in the 65-70 age bracket, lost his match to Boris Katz of Huntington Beach, Calif. by scores of 6-0, 6-0, but he was glad to get a chance to compete in a tournament that features 50 of the top players in the nation for his age group.
“It’s a special feeling to be put up against the best of your peers,” Westrum said. “I thought I played pretty well.”
Westrum is hoping that tennis will continue to grow and thrive in Austin.
“I just want kids in town to work hard and put in true appreciation for the game,” Westrum said.
