According to the court complaint, officers were dispatched at 3:30 p.m. on Friday to an apartment building in the 1200 block of Fourth Street Northwest on a report of an assault with a knife. Dispatch advised that a woman (later identified as Gilbert) had threatened to kill another woman with a knife. Police arrived and made contact with the woman, who immediately said, “(Gilbert) just tried to kill me.”

The woman reported that she was walking into her apartment as Gilbert was walking out of hers. She said Gilbert held a knife above her head and repeatedly said, “I’m gonna kill you.” She described the knife as having a long, serrated blade.

The woman told police she believed Gilbert was angry because she had told the landlord that Gilbert had bed bugs in her apartment.

A male witness said he had entered the common area of the apartment at the same time as the woman and saw Gilbert approach her with the knife.

Police made contact with Gilbert, who was intoxicated and difficult to understand. She indicated she was upset she would need to get rid of her couch and bed due to bed bugs, but denied threatening to kill anyone with a knife. She also indicated she did not remember leaving her apartment and that she might have “blacked-out.”

An officer located a knife in Gilbert’s apartment. The woman identified it as the knife Gilbert had in her possession.

A review of Gilbert’s criminal history shows prior convictions for disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and issuing dishonored checks.

Gilbert will appear in court again on July 22.
