Burning the midnight oil: Post 91 gets past Stewartville

The Austin Post 91 Legion baseball team had to wait a little while to get the playoffs started, but it made made it count, beating Stewartville 13-9 in a District Tournament opening round game in Marcusen Park Monday.

The game started at 9 p.m. as Post 91 had to wait for Austin Post 1216 to wrap up its Sub-District title. When Post 91 got on the field, it was able to put the game away with a seven-run fourth inning to go up 13-2.

Tony Ciola went three-for-three with a double in the win for Post 91.

“It was fun waiting and watching the VFW win,” Ciola said. “We just kept taking batting practice and we were locked into the game and we were ready to go. The playoffs give you an extra burst of energy.”

Drew Copley scored the win for Post 91, which will now play in Rochester at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
