The Austin Post 1216 VFW baseball team clinched its first trip to the state tournament since 2016  when it won the District Tournament in Northfield Saturday.

Post 1216 topped Owatonna 11-0 in five innings to win the District on Sunday and it beat Northfield 2-1 to clinch a trip to state on Saturday. Austin beat Owatonna 10-4 in the tournament opener.

Jed Nelson went the distance as he held Northfield to just one hit and zero earned runs in the state clincher and Zach Bollingberg pitched the win and hit a inside-the-park grand slam in Saturday’s win over Owatonna.

The State VFW Baseball Tournament will be held in Brainerd.
