Track and field: Area athletes have a chance to make noise at state

A total of 10 area athletes will put it all on the line at the Minnesota Class A and Class AA State Track and Field Meet at Hamline University in St. Paul Friday and Saturday.

The Packers have three first time state qualifiers who are all looking to make their time count on the big stage.

The GMLOKS girls have two sprint relay teams that are in prime position to make a run at first place and a hurdler who could get on the podium as well.

CLASS AA BOYS

Long jump: Dongrin Deng of Austin is seeded 20th out of 20 qualifiers with a distance of 20 feet, six inches.

Discus: Oliver Andersen of Austin is seeded ninth out of 16 throwers with a qualifying distance of 156-11.

CLASS AA GIRLS

110-meter hurdles: Taige Iverson of Austin is seeded eighth out of 16 runners with a state qualifying time of 15.02 seconds.

CLASS A GIRLS

4 X 200-meter relay: The GMLOKS team of Anika Reiland, Hailey Hindt, Lauren Buchholtz, Riley Queensland is seeded first out of 16 teams with a qualifying time of 1:45.18. Reiland, Buchholtz and Queensland were all on the state championship 4 x 200 team in 2018.

4 X 100-meter relay: The GMLOKS team of Isabelle Olson, Reiland, Kassidy Kirtz and Buchholtz is tied with Rochester Lourdes for the top seed out of 17 teams with a time of 49.67 seconds.

300-meter hurdles: Hindt of GMLOKS is seeded second out of 17 runners with a qualifying time of 45.09 seconds.

Long jump: Buchholtz of GMLOKS is seeded ninth out of 19 qualifiers with a distance of 17 feet, 1.5 inches.

Discus: Madison Johnston of Hayfield is seeded 16th out of 16 throwers with a qualifying distance of 36 feet, 1.25 inches.
