Hormel Historic Home hosting a summer of music

‘Tis the season for music at the Hormel Historic Home. Our summer is full so mark your calendars and dust off your chair for a variety of musical performances in the Peace Garden (weather permitting). Allow Music @ the Mansion to be a part of your summer plans – rain or shine.

Tuesday: Jazz One

17-member jazz group made up of Austin High School students. Enjoy a mix of old and new ranging from familiar swing tunes and jazz classics to newer funk tunes. 7 p.m.

June 11: Kid’s Concert featuring Dennis Warner

Entertainer and author Dennis Warner has traveled through all 50 states and beyond performing for all ages, singing songs from his 10 CD’s and reading from his popular children’s book, “Beads on One String.” 2-3 p.m.

June 18: Patchouli & Terra Guitarra

Internationally touring guitar duo who share the soulful fusion of blazing Spanish and world guitar instrumentals, heartstring tugging lyrics, lush vocal harmonies, and epic folk rock anthems. 2 p.m. indoor event, 7 p.m. Peace Garden.

July 1: The Austin Community Jazz Band

Directed by Brian Koser, this local music favorite has an annual tradition of performing at the HHH. Join us for classic jazz and fun arrangements performed by local musicians. Special musical guest Adam Meckler on trumpet. 7 p.m.

July 8: Kate & the Kavemen

Led by Austinite Kate Jordal, this regional act will perform classic rock and folk tunes in addition to current pop favorites. 7 p.m.

July 15: Lehto & Wright

Minneapolis based group performing modern interpretations of Traditional Celtic and American Folk Music. 7 p.m.

July 22: Joey Leone: AM Radio Memories – Songs & stories of the 50s, 60s and 70s

Joey Leone and his band take an in-depth yet lighthearted look at the songs that came out of our AM radios during the golden age of rock and roll. 7 p.m.

July 29: Bluedog Blues Band

Minneapolis based Bluedog is an award-winning blues band influenced by life experiences of Native people featuring female blues vocals, rocking blues guitar, hot keys and solid rhythm and bass. 7 p.m.

Aug. 5: Scott Jasmin presenting Small Town Song

Small-town Songs is a collection of original Americana that depicts snapshots of everyday life in an ordinary Midwestern small town. 7 p.m.

Aug. 12: Bissen Family & Friends Band

One of the area’s most loved musical family (and friends) bands. These talented and downright friendly musicians will perform your favorite classic rock tunes. 7 p.m.

Aug. 26: David Stokes Nature Program

David Stokes is a popular family entertainer/educator/naturalist who likes to share songs, stories, sign-language and humor. 6 p.m.

Sept. 8: Carriage Hall Event Center — 10th Anniversary Celebration, featuring Sena Ehrhardt and Cole Allen.

Free Community event to celebrate the programs and progress of the Hormel Historic Home in the last 10 years. 2-6 p.m.


Special History Happy Hour Event

5:30 p.m. social, 6 p.m. program to start at the HHH and then a walk around Mill Pond. Monday, June 10

Tim Ruzek of the Cedar River Watershed District will lead a walking tour of the Austin Mill Pond history with a handout of old pictures for participants to reference for comparison. This area’s major changes will be covered including its first era as a backwater swamp with islands to its transformation into a state park before being opened for development in the 1960s to its present-day flood walls and berms.
