Denis “Red” Thomas Gilles, 67, of Adams, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at his home.

Red was born on Oct. 9, 1951, in Osage, Iowa, to Daniel and Gloria (Creedy) Gilles. He graduated from Adams High School in 1969. He served as a cook in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1975. After his service in the Navy, he went to culinary school in Rochester, Minnesota. Over the years, he cooked at Michael’s Cerise in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, the Hubble House in Mantorville, Minnesota, Harry’s Café in Austin, Minnesota, the Carlton Hotel in Rochester, the Rusty Rail in Taopi, Minnesota, and at Bubble’s Café in Adams.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, watching old movies, playing cards, and shaking dice. Red especially looked forward to fishing with his brothers and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel; and sister and brother-in-law, Dawn and Richard Greeley.

Red is survived by his mother, Gloria Gilles, Adams; brothers and sisters-in-law, Colin and Connie Gilles, Stewartville, Minnesota, Charles and Linda Gilles, Adams, Clair Gilles, Austin, Robert and Dawn Gilles, Rose Creek, Minnesota, and Brian and Chandra Gilles, Adams; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Pudge Longueville, Austin; many nieces and nephews; aunt, Gert Gilles, Waterloo, Iowa; and many cousins.

A private family interment will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota. Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
