The Wendy’s location in Austin has officially shut its doors after having its last day of business on Saturday.

By Monday, the sign on the building, located at 1401 18th Ave. NW, had been taken down and several people were inside cleaning up.

“My contract was up with Wendy’s and we decided not to renew it with them,” said building owner Jeff Mosiman. “Typically, contracts run anywhere from 15 to 20 years, and you can renegotiate in the last five years.”

Wendy’s employees were informed on Monday that the decision had been made to close the location, according to Mosiman. One employee told the Herald he had received a message on Monday to pick up his paycheck.

Mosiman called the decision to close the Austin location “personal.”

“I’ve really enjoyed Austin; it’s been a great place,” he said. “I’m 61 and I’m kind of at the end of the game. I’m kind of winding down a bit.”

Mosiman said that Wendy’s corporate office approved the decision. He indicated that he did not have any immediate plans for the building.
