Darwin “Bob” L. Freitag, 93, of Mankato, Minnesota, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019, at New Perspective Senior Living in Mankato.

Bob was born on July 6, 1925, in Hayfield, Minnesota, the son of Elmer and Fern (Lewis) Freitag. He graduated from Austin High School in 1943. After graduation, Bob worked in the Seattle shipyards. In 1952, he began a 34-year career with Hormel Foods. In December of 1947, Bob was united in marriage to Vivian Howells and together the couple had six children. Vivian died on March 3, 1966. In May of 1971, Bob married Lorraine Hansen at St. Luke’s in Lansing, Minnesota. After Bob retired, he started driving cars for Holiday Dodge. He loved working on cars, putting puzzles together, traveling, doing yard work and, most of all, spending time with family, especially his grandkids. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Freitag of Mankato; children, Wayne (Mary Carol) Freitag of Leesburg, Florida, Brenda Geisinger of Austin, Barbara (Norb) Poch of Chetek, Wisconsin, James (Shari) Freitag of Eagan, Minnesota, Robert Freitag of Winona, Minnesota, Charles (JO) Bailey of Mankato and Stephen (Bronna) Bailey of Russellville, Kentucky; daughter-in-law, Peggy Freitag of Austin; 38 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Lorraine E. Freitag of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Fern Freitag; son, Roger Freitag; brother, Lloyd Freitag; and sister, Marlus Quam.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
