Corrine S. Astrup, 94, of Austin, Minnesota, went to heaven on Friday, March 15, 2019. She was surrounded by family at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin after suffering a massive stroke on Monday, March 11, 2019.

She was born on Aug. 29, 1924, to Theron (Hap) and Ann Elizabeth Spoonheim in New Rockford, North Dakota. In 1928, Corrine and her family moved to Williston, North Dakota, where she grew up during the Depression. Corrine graduated from Williston High School in 1942 and moved to Breckenridge, Minnesota. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and then St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo, North Dakota, where she graduated as a registered nurse. After graduation, Corrine worked as a nurse in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and Fullerton, California. Corrine met Leonard (Len) Astrup and they were married on June 11, 1955, at Breckenridge Lutheran Church. At the time of Len’s death in July 2014, they had enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Len and Corrine had four children: Ann, Chris, Dan and Susan. Corrine’s greatest joy was her family. She was a rock and her legacy lives on through the family she and Len created. She loved attending the children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She was a devoted mom and grandma and enjoyed all our family traditions, especially Christmas Eve. Corrine was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, a volunteer at St. Olaf Hospital Auxiliary for over 50 years, and was also involved in St. Mark’s Auxiliary, PEO Chapter BZ, American Red Cross, Sons of Norway and more. Corrine worked in the office at the family’s drugstore after the kids were all in school. Corrine enjoyed travel, walking, spending time at the family cabin on Ottertail Lake and watching the Twins, Timberwolves, Gopher basketball (especially Gopher women), Lynx and the Gusties. Giving generously brought Corrine great joy. She was active on the Board of Directors of Astrup Family Foundation. After losing Len to Alzheimer’s, she became an active advocate for the Alzheimer’s Association. Her faith in God was most important and guided her every day of her life. Corrine was kind, humble, gracious, sharp, loving, sincere, thoughtful, friendly and beautiful in every way. Her quiet strength had a huge impact on her family, and she was a blessing to all those who knew her.

Survivors include her children, Ann Astrup (Laura) of Wayzata, Minnesota, Christopher (Lynn) Astrup of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Daniel (Becky) Astrup of Austin and Susan (Erik) Lundquist of Rochester, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Hayley (Tony) Post, Jessica (Nick) Ehret, Robert (Kelsey) Astrup, Andrea (Jeremiah) Becker, Michael (Melissa) Astrup, Laura Astrup, Anna Lundquist, John Lundquist and Peter Lundquist; six great-grandchildren; brother, the Rev. Jay (Isa) Spoonheim of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theron and Ann Spoonheim; husband, Leonard Astrup; sister, Jo Ann Overboe; brother, Donald Spoonheim; nephew, Mark Spoonheim; and niece, Jan Overboe.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Anjanette Bandel officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. prior to the service on Friday at the church. There will be a private interment. Worlein Funeral Home (www.worlein.com) of Austin is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Astrup Family Foundation, a non-profit that gives to charities focused on family, faith, healthcare, education and strengthening communities or to the charity of your choice.
