Tyler Lance Jensen, 32, of Wykoff, was charged with felony second-degree burglary-possess tool, felony third-degree burglary, felony first-degree tampering with witness and gross misdemeanor theft-take/use/transfer movable property without consent on Monday in Mower County District Court.

According to the court complaint, a man contacted a Mower County deputy on Dec. 28 regarding a burglary at his garage in Taopi. The victim said two chainsaws were stolen and he had video surveillance that showed Jensen committing the crime. He also reported he had confronted Jensen about the incident and Jensen returned two chainsaws, valued at $450 and $550.

The victim told the deputy Jensen had been at his residence on Dec. 26 to help with chores. He left the residence in the afternoon and noticed the light in the garage was on when he returned home. He found the padlock on the ground. He then found a hammer and a pry bar in the garage and noticed the chainsaws were missing.

The deputy reviewed the surveillance footage, which allegedly showed Jensen arriving at the residence after the victim left. After knocking on the door and seeing no one was home, Jensen removed a hammer and pry bar from the back of the victim’s pickup truck parked in the driveway and walked toward the garage. He was then seen putting two chainsaws into his vehicle.

The deputy contacted Jensen, who admitted to stealing the chainsaws, saying he believed the victim had taken his cell phone. Jensen said he returned the chainsaws and was apologetic to the deputy, who warned him to stay away from the victim.

On Dec. 29, the victim contacted a deputy regarding harassing text messages he received from Jensen. The victim emailed screenshots of the text messages. The deputy reviewed the messages and observed Jensen was angry that the victim contacted law enforcement, calling the victim a “cop-calling little (expletive)” and making a veiled threat that he would send the victim “a care package.” He also wrote, “It will be in your best interest to do everything in your power to make sure no charges get pressed.”

Jensen will appear in court again on Feb. 19.
