The Austin girls basketball team came out running and shooting as they plowed past Faribault (4-15 overall, 4-11 Big Nine) 84-28 in Ove Berven Gym Friday.

After having just one practice this week, the Packers came out a little sluggish as they led just 16-13 early on. The Packers eventually got the ball rolling as Colie Justice hit a lay-up and two free throws to kick-start a 25-2 run that saw the Packers take a 52-21 lead. Justice finished with 20 points, four steals and three assists.

“We’ve been really hungry,” Justice said. “We’ve picked it up and it’s been fun. We were in a slump, but we’re a strong team and we are able to get out of it. We’ve had limited practice time, but we’ve made it count.”

Austin (13-6 overall, 12-5 Big Nine) had nine players score in the win. Emma Dudycha had 17 points off the bench and Hope Dudycha had 15 points.

“When the ball goes in, it looks really good,” Austin head coach Eric Zoske said. “We had a lot of girls make a lot of shots. Sections are two weeks away and we want to create some good habits. We did some of that tonight.”
