William “Billy” Duane Newman, 71, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

He was born March 30, 1947, in Austin to William B. and Ardis N. (Skauge) Newman. Following school, William worked in a janitorial position at Owatonna Tool Company. He was a member of the Salvation Army. Among his favorite leisure time activities were playing cards and dice, watching TV, playing bingo and going camping. William loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. He especially enjoyed his cats and he lived on Coca-Cola. William will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Newman and Barb Johnson, both of Austin; Ronnie Newman of Austin; sister-in-law, Linda Newman of Austin; godchild, Jennifer Anderson of Waseca, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. William was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ardis Newman; maternal grandparents, Nervin and Agnes Skauge; paternal grandparents, John and Hilda Newman; brothers, Robert Newman and Dennis Newman; brother-in-law, Ronald Johnson Sr.; and nephew, Ronald Johnson Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at the Salvation Army in Austin with Capt. Laura Amick officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Salvation Army. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the family or the Salvation Army.
