Sharon K. McCormack, 70, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at her home in Austin.

Sharon Kay Rust was born to John William and Wilma Gertrude (Edwards) Rust on Nov. 28, 1948, in Endicott, New York. Her family moved to Rochester, Minnesota, in 1957. She attended John Marshall High School in Rochester, graduating in 1966. After graduation, Sharon worked for a short time as a telephone operator. On July 13, 1968, she married Lewis “Mac” McCormack in Rochester. Together the couple was blessed with two children, Jeff and Michele. After her marriage to Mac, the family lived in Rochester, followed by Antioch, California, finally moving to Austin in the late 1970s when Mac was transferred. While raising her family, Sharon did in-home day care and later became a bailiff for Mower County. Mac passed away on Oct. 10, 2002. On Jan. 5, 2012, Sharon married Rex Machacek in Rochester. Her greatest joy was her family. She enjoyed fishing and the annual family trip to Ruth Lake. Sharon was an avid scrapbooker and a talented painter of ceramics. She also enjoyed square dancing in her younger years and became a beautiful quilter in the past several years. Her dog, Cali, was a faithful companion. She visited Disney World, “The Happiest Place on Earth,” over 30 times. Sharon will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Rex Machacek of Austin; children, Jeff (Aimee) McCormack of Austin and Michele (Matt) Adams of Zimmerman, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Jessica McCormack, Ryan McCormack, Jordyn McCormack, Mallory (Cody) Christ, Marit Adams and Noah Adams; sister, Debbie (Steve) Helgerson of Chatfield, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Keith Rysted of Hudson, Florida; and many nieces; in Rex’s family, two daughters, Lynn (Brian) Klapperick of Austin and Kelly (Pat) Hansen of Apple Valley, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Wilma Rust; first husband, “Mac”; and her sister, Sandy Rysted.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Austin with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Visitation will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Interment will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Memorials can be directed to recipient of donor’s choice. Services are pre-arranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
