Leaders of “Plunging for Pink” say the event will take place as scheduled this coming Saturday for those who want to jump.

It also comes with a warning for participants to prepare for the weather and for spectators to dress warm to watch the fun.

A “pinky plunge” alternative will be available for those who don’t want to take the whole body plunge due to low temperatures.

Saturday’s high temps are forecast at just over single digits with a high of 11 predicted.

“It will be a fun but cold day so we want everyone participating to make a decision that is wisest for them,” said Toren Bires, event organizer along with his wife Lindsay Bires. “Raising funds to support the important cancer research projects underway at The Hormel Institute is what is important.”

Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, at East Side Lake and the plungers will start jumping at 12:30 p.m.

Following the plunge, a celebration will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Eagles Club in Austin. Everyone is invited and the celebration will feature an awards ceremony, music, food, and more.

Pulling in the bucks

In the past six years, Plunging for Pink has raised over $312,000 for The Hormel Institute’s cancer research.  This has become the top fundraising event for Paint the Town Pink, which in all has generated $1.5 million for cancer research.
